2018 Honor Roll

This year we made great things, met creative geniuses, and ate many snacks.

This always happens. You realize it’s December, you wonder where the year has gone, then you think, “Wow, look at all the cool stuff we were a part of.” Take Small Planet’s year, for example…

We were part of meetups and panel discussions on machine learning, time-series data, and building your own subway sign.

We added a very fun (and educational) AR/VR setup in our Machine Learning Lab, and created a Twitter account, @foodtruckfran, that combined our love of robots and food trucks.

We ate great donuts at XOXO in Portland, ate more donuts at Brooklyn’s Northside Festival, had a breathtaking tater tot experience in Vegas at CES, felt all the feelings with the gang at Creative Mornings NYC, experienced a close encounter with birds of prey upstate at CatskillsConf, and heard some straight talk about Bitcoin at MIT’s VC + Innovation Conference.

We created handy toolboxes for Android Development, interactive design, and mobile app accessibility. We also found time to round up our favorite developer memes and Instagram accounts.

We made new friends at Colossal Media, Threes Brewing, RAYGUN (“The Greatest Store in the Universe”), The Dyrt, and so many more interesting places.

In our new Rocket Science interview series, we talked to geniuses like illustrator and author John Solimine, major-league creative director Alex Little, and producer Joel Jensen.

We won a bunch of awards too, which was really very nice. And, we helped support the mission of organizations such as Voto Latino, theSkimm, and Learning Machine.

In 2019 we’re going to build more beautiful digital products, profile more fascinating people, and talk more about the things we love. We’ll also be hanging out with the cool kids at the MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference and the even-cooler kids at Digital Entertainment World 2019.

Also, next year is Small Planet’s 10th anniversary, so we should probably do a big party everybody’s invited to. Hey, you should come!
