1. NYC’s Oscar Health, a tech-enabled health insurance company, raised $1.5 billion in its Initial Public Offering. The IPO valued the company at $9.5 billion. Oscar had previously raised a total of $1.6 billion from investors including NYC’s Thrive Capital, Founders Fund, Formation 8, CapitalG, Fidelity, Alphabet, Coatue and NYC’s Tiger Global. 2. NYC’s Codecademy, an online learn to code platform, has raised $40 million in a Series D financing. Owl Ventures led the round with participation from Prosus and NYC’s Union Square Ventures. Codecademy attracted five million new users during the pandemic. (www.codeacademy.com) (EdSurge)

3. NYC’s DigitalOcean, a developer-focused cloud infrastructure platform, has filed to raise $100 million in an Initial Public Offering. DigitalOcean reported $318.4 million in revenue in 2020, up almost 25 percent from 2019. 4. Paramus’ Nuvolo, a workplace management software platform, has raised $31 million in a Series C funding. Insight Partners led the round and was joined by Revelation Partners, New Enterprise Associates and Kaiser Permanente Ventures. 5. NYC’s Looped, a virtual venue streaming platform, has raised $7.7 million in a seed funding round. Will Ventures led the round, and was joined by Rocketship VC, Alpaca VC, Forefront Venture Partners, HOF Capital, Toy Ventures, Intuition Capital, Predictive VC, Ketch Ventures and over 90 angel investors. Since its October 2019 launch, 300,000 people have bought virtual tickets to live chat events featuring the likes of Billie Eilish, Shawn Mendes, Kevin Durant, Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, Lin-Manuel Miranda and the original cast of Hamilton. 6. NYC’s Newsela, a K-12 instructional content platform for teaching, has raised $100 million in a Series D funding. Franklin Templeton led the round and was joined by Owl Ventures, Tao Capital Partners, Chan Zuckerberg Initiative and Waycross Ventures. 7. NYC’s Compass, a tech-enabled real estate brokerage, has filed to raise $500 million in an Initial Public Offering. The company had $3.7 billion in revenues and $270 million in net losses in 2020. 8. NYC’s Electric, an automated IT support platform, has raised $40 million in a Series C funding. Greenspring Associates led the round and was joined by NYC’s Primary Venture Partners, Bessemer Venture Partners, GGV Capital, 01 Advisors, Atreides Management and Vintage Investment Partners. Electric provides automated, chat-bot driven, IT support services to enterprise clients with tasks such as setting up an email address or turning on a firewall handled without human intervention. 9. NYC’s Nanit, developer of a smart baby monitor that uses computer vision, has raised $25 million in a Series C financing. GV (Google Ventures) led the round and was joined by Jerusalem Venture Partners, Upfront Ventures, RRE Ventures, and Rho Capital Partners. Nanit’s nursery camera pairs computer vision with specially patterned clothing to track an infant’s breathing without a sensor. (www.nanit.com) (TechCrunch)

10. NYC’s Praxis Labs, a virtual reality-based diversity and inclusion learning platform, has raised $3.2 million in a seed funding round. Investors included SoftBank’s SB Opportunity Fund, Norwest Venture Partners, Emerson Collective, Ulu Ventures, Precursor Ventures and Firework VC. The company’s VR platform is being used to provide diversity training for clients such as Google eBay, Amazon, Google and Uber. (www.praxislabs.org) (AI Authority)
