1. Employees of NYC’s Better.com found out this week that they were being laid off by seeing a severance check in their Workday account — the company’s payroll app. An estimated 3,000 of the company’s 8,000 employees in the U.S. and India are being let go. (TechCrunch)

2. NYC’s Alfred, a residential real estate management platform, has raised $125 million in a strategic funding round and acquired RKW Residential, a property management firm in the Southeastern U.S. The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. The deal adds 30,000 rental units in cities including Miami, Charlotte and Atlanta to the 143,000 units across 44 markets in the U.S. and Canada already on Alfred’s platform. 3. NYC’s Flume Health, a Health-Plan-as-a-Service platform, has raised $30 million in a Series A funding. The round was led by Optum Ventures with participation from NYC’s Primary Venture Partners, Cigna Ventures, Crosslink Capital, Route 66 Ventures, Accomplice, Founder Collective and ERA’s Remarkable Ventures Fund. Flume’s platform empowers established or emerging health insurers to quickly launch health plans that are tailored to the unique needs of any patient population. (www.flumehealth.com) (PR Newswire)

4. NYC’s Scope Security, a cyber threat detection and response platform, has raised $20 million in a Series A funding. The round was led by NYC’s Thrive Capital with participation from SV Angel, Martin Ventures, Sound Ventures, Crossbeam and Free Solo. The company’s platform is designed to protect hospitals, clinics and large healthcare systems from cyberattacks and ransomware. (www.scopesecurity.com) (EIN Newswires)

5. NYC’s Rarify, an NFT application programming interface (API) platform, has raised $10 million in a Series A fund at a $100 million valuation. The round was led by Pantera Capital and joined by Eniac Ventures, NYC’s Greycroft, Hyper and Slow Ventures. The company’s platform offers an application programming interface (API) platform that lets companies create, manage and scale NFT products with a simple integration. (www.rarify.tech) (CoinDesk)

6. NYC’s point.me, a flight rewards travel search engine, has raised $2 million in a seed funding. Capital Ventures led the round and was joined by Skinnygirl founder and CEO Bethenny Frankel, WndrCo Holdings, DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg, Dropbox founder Sujay Jaswa and former DreamWorks Animation president Ann Daily. The company’s platform searches routes on more than 150 airlines to uncover reward travel options that would have been difficult to find otherwise. (www.point.me) (TechCrunch)

7. NYC’s Buyk, a grocery deliver app founded by two Russians, has furloughing about 98% of its employees until it can secure funding from American sources. 8. NYC’s FreeWill, an estate and will planning platform, has raised $30 million in a Series B funding. The round was led by Bain Capital Double Impact and joined by HearstLab, QED Investors, Pear VC and Highland Capital Partners. 9. NYC’s Daybase, a network of hybrid, on-demand workspots across the country, has raised $9.6 million in a seed funding. The round was led by True Ventures, and joined by Company Ventures, Good Friends, and New York City real estate owners including the Milsteins, Lefraks and RudinVentures. Daybase, which was started by former WeWork executives, develops professional-grade, on-demand work spots, located in neighborhoods and local communities across the country. 10. Newark’s, Pinata, a credit building rewards program for renters, has raised $13 million in a Series A funding. Wilshire Lane Capital led the round. Piñata reports rent payments to credit bureaus and rewards renters for making on-time payments with “Piñata Cash” that can be spent at over 300,000 retailers, including Amazon, Starbucks and Target. 11. NYC’s PopChew, which partners with local restaurants to cook up new dishes for delivery, has raised $3.6 million in a seed funding. Long Journey Ventures led the round and was joined by Jake Paul’s Anti Fund, Flybridge, WndrCo, the Uber Alumni Syndicate, Rus Yusupov of HQ Trivia and Vine, Steven Galanis of Cameo, Rich Antoniello of Complex Media and Scott Belsky. Popchew taps into restaurants’ unused capacity to allow creators to sell their own food brands. (www.popchew.com) (TechCrunch)
