1. Mayor-elect Adams promises that “NYC is going to be the center of the cryptocurrency industry.” Adams plans to look at what is preventing the growth of bitcoin and cryptocurrency in New York. The new Mayor will take his first three paychecks in Bitcoin. (New York Post)
2. Peloton’s stock continued its slide today by another 9% following its announcement that sales of its signature stationary bike and treadmill had dropped by 17%. 3. NYC’s TIFIN, an AI-powered personalized wealth and asset management platform, has raised $47 million in a Series C funding. Investors included Hamilton Lane, J.P. 4. NYC’s Abound, a wholesale marketplace connecting small business owners and independent brands, has raised $36.7 million in a Series B funding. The D. E. Shaw group led the round and was joined by PointState Capital, Left Lane Capital, RiverPark Ventures and All Iron Ventures. Abound’s marketplace offers over 400,000 products to a network of over 40,000 retailers in all 50 states and the United Kingdom. (www.helloabound.com) (PR Newswire)
5. NYC’s Rowan, a piercing and jewelry startup, has raised $20 million in a Series B funding. VMG Partners led the round and was joined by Thirty Five Ventures, TABLE Management, Beechwood Capital, Silas Capital and Goldcrest Capital. Since launch, Rowan has completed over 150,000 piercings at two brick-and-mortar locations in NYC and Connecticut, with its piercing services also available in more than 250 Target stores nationwide. 6. In upstate news, Geneva’s RealEats, a “sous vide” meal-kit delivery company, has raised $16.3 million in a Series A funding. The New York State Common Retirement Fund led the round and was joined by GNC, Syracuse’s Armory Square Ventures and Excell Partners. 9. NYC’s Extend, a virtual credit card issuer, has raised $40 million in a Series B funding. March Capital led the round and was joined by B Capital, Point72 Ventures, Fintech Collective, Reciprocal Ventures, Wells Fargo and Pacific Western Bank. The company’s platform issues unique digital credit card to employees, with a defined spend limit, without revealing the actual credit card number. (www.paywithextend.com) (TechCrunch)
10. NYC’s Butler Hospitality, a ghost kitchen operator for hotels, has raised $32 million in a Series B funding. Investors in the round were Shamrock Holdings, Mousse Partners and Maywic Select Investments. Butler takes over a hotel kitchen on one property and uses it to provide meal delivery services to in-house guests there and in other nearby hotels. (www.butlerhospitality.com) (PR Newswire)
