1. NYC’s Slice, an ordering platform for independent pizzerias, has raised $40 million in a Series D funding. The round was led by Cross Creek, with participation from KKR, GGV Capital, NYC’s Primary Venture Partners and Twitter’s former CEO Dick Costolo. Slice has built a mobile app and website for ordering from local pizzeria and also provides tools so they can build their own websites and run marketing campaigns. (www.slicelife.com) (TechCrunch)

2. Governor Andrew Cuomo signed a bill that requires all Internet Service Providers operating in New York to offer a $15 a month broadband option for low-income consumers. This new bill caps the price at $15 for 25 MB broadband and $20 for 50 MB service for over seven million New York residents in 2.7 million households. New Yorkers qualifying include households who are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, SNAP benefits, Medicaid benefits, the senior citizen or disability rent increase exemptions, or an affordability benefit from a utility. 3. NYC’s Veriff, an identity verification startup, has raised $69 million in a Series B financing. IVP and Accel led the round. Veriff’s video-first, AI-powered identity verification platform combines with data cross-checks to detect signs of identity fraud. Veriff is one the Estonian startups in NYC. 4. NYC’s Vericred, an API platform exchange for health insurance and benefits companies, has raised $23 million in a Series B funding. Aquiline Technology Growth led and was joined by Echo Health Ventures, MassMutual Ventures, Guardian Strategic Ventures, Riverside Acceleration Capital, FCA Venture Partners and First Health Capital Partners. Vericred’s platform empowers “quote to card” functionality for more than 300 insurance companies. (www.vericred.com) (HIT Consultant)

5. NYC’s Co-Star Astrology, a hyper-personalized astrology app, has raised $15 million in a Series A funding. Spark Capital led the round and was joined by Maveron and NYC’s Female Founders Fund. Co-Star’s app has been downloaded by a quarter of all women ages 18 to 25 in the U.S. (www.costarastrology.com) (Yahoo News)

A $1,000 investment made in the TechNY15 index stocks on April 16, 2020 would be worth $1,659.93 today. 7. Brooklyn’s ConsenSys, an Ethereum development hub, has raised $65 million in a convertible note round. Investors included J.P. Morgan, Mastercard and UBS. ConsenSys has now been successfully restructured into two parts: a core software business and an investment and incubation arm known as ConsenSys Mesh. (www.consensys.net) (Coinbase)

8. TechCrunch has profiled NYC’s Willo, a newly launched developer of a robot toothbrush for kids. The company has raised $17 million from Kleiner Perkins, Bpifrance and Incite. The Willo device features an internet-connected, silicone-based mouthpiece with soft bristles and contains a water tank with a special rinse liquid. Willo is one of the many French startups in NYC. 9. NYC’s Comet. a machine learning model building platform, has raised $13 million in a Series A funding. Scale Venture Partners led the round with participation from Trilogy Equity Partners and Two Sigma Ventures. The company’s Comet Model Production Monitoring product enables organizations to track and monitor the quality of ML models after they have been deployed in production. (www.comet.ml) (BusinessWire)

10. NYC’s Pillar, a platform designed to manage student loans, has been acquired by Acorns. The financial terms were not disclosed. Pillar, which has raised $5.5 million from investors including Kleiner Perkins, manages over $500 million of student loan debt for more than 15,000 borrowers. (www.acorns.com) (TechCrunch)
