1. NYC’s Industrious, a coworking startup, has raised $200 million from real estate giant CBRE. The investment gives CBRE a 35% stake in Industrious, making it the company’s largest stockholder. As part of the deal, Industrious will take over running CBRE’s Hana co-working venture, which has more than 100 locations in 50 US cities. (www.industriousoffice.com) (PlaceTech)
2. WeWork founder Adam Neumann and SoftBank are reportedly near a settlement of their lawsuit. The terms would include Softbank buying 25% of Neumann’s WeWork shares for $480 million, down from the $970 million worth of shares that SoftBank was to purchase. The deal would pave the way for WeWork to be bought by a SPAC, BowX Acquisition. (www.wework.com) (Business Insider)
3. Peekskill’s Dandelion Energy, a geothermal energy startup spun out of Google, has raised $30 million in a Series B funding. Bill Gates’ Breakthrough Energy Ventures led the round and was joined by GV (Google Ventures), NEA, Lennar Corporation, Collaborative Fund, Building Ventures, Catchlight Ventures and GroundUp. Dandelion has installed about 500 of its geothermal heating and cooling systems in New York and Connecticut. (www.dandelionenergy.com) (GreentechMedia)
4. NJ’s 1Kosmos, a digital identity platform, has emerged from stealth and raised $15 million in a Series A funding. ForgePoint Capital led the round. The company’s platform uses biometrics and blockchain technology to provide passwordless authentication. (www.1kosmos.com) (BusinessWire)
5. NYC’s Marble, a digital wallet and loyalty platform for the insurance industry, has raised $2.5 million in a seed funding round. Investors included IA Capital Group, MS&AD Ventures, Reciprocal Ventures, Fintech Ventures Fund, The Takoma Group and HU Investments. Marble’s platform allows users to manage their insurance policies and earn rewards which can be applied to insurance premiums. (www.marblepay.com) (PR Newsire)
6. NYC’s Primary Venture Partners has launched its NYC Founders Fellowship, a 6-month, part-time immersive program in business creation for aspiring entrepreneurs. 7. NYC’s VidMob, a creative content creation platform with analytics, has raised $50 million in a Series C funding. Investors included Adobe, NYC’s Shutterstock, Drive by DraftKings, the Spruce House Partnership, Prefix Capital, BuildGroup, Interlock Partners and Macanta. 8. NYC’s Primary Venture Partners, a VC firm focused exclusively on NYC startups, has raised $150 million for its third fund. In addition to the new seed fund, the firm also raised an additional $50 million for its existing Select fund which participates in later-stage rounds. Among the NYC startups that the firm has backed are Jet.com (acquired by Walmart for $3.3 billion), Mirror (acquired by Lululemon for $500 million) and Latch (which is going public via a SPAC merger). 9. Hoboken’s SPHERE, a cybersecurity platform, has raised $10 million in a Series A funding. ForgePoint Capital led the round. The company’s platform is focused on providing access governance across data, platforms and applications. (www.sphereco.com) (Finsmes)
10. Brooklyn’s Working Not Working, a platform for hiring creatives, has been acquired by Fiverr. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Working Not Working had previously raised $1 million. (www.workingnotworking.com) (AdWeek)
